Tartan Army

Traditionally, Scotland's reputation as a hotbed of music ranks right up there with it's reputation as a mecca for fine dining. In fact, we're pretty sure that the bagpipes are the musical equivalent of haggis. That aside, and contrary to popular assumption, the land that gave us television, penicillin and whiskey is also home to some of the best rock bands in the world today. Don't act so surprised. This is the home of Rod Stewart, the Cocteau Twins, The Vaselines, Travis, Simple Minds, Idlewild and the Jesus & Mary Chain. Oh, and the Proclaimers (who fucking rock, glasses or no). So to celebrate Tartan week - a dubious holiday first proposed by Trent Lott of all people - grab a bottle of your finest single malt, and tune in.

Rousing one minute and heartbreaking the next, it’s the perfect soundtrack to a whisky-sodden soiree.
