It’s hard being in love in New York City—even for an unassailably hip goddess with a rad biker jacket. This debut EP from
25-year-old Lissy Trullie, a model turned DJ turned rock-scene It Girl, is a collection of lovelorn new-wave jams that don’t even bother trying to play it cool. The title track pairs clean, Strokes-y guitars with lyrics straight out of Twilight—all gooey romanticism and a chorus built around the plea “I want to die with you.” “She Said” is a sometimes-sweet, sometimes-eviscerating conversation with an ex, and “Forget About It” is desperate testament to the torture of wondering whether someone likes you back. Trullie pulls herself together for the final song, a punked-up cover of Hot Chip’s “Ready for the Floor,” but it’s too late—we’ve already seen the heartbreak behind her haircut.
