Gabriel Garcia may be 15, but he makes up in attitude what he lacks in facial hair: “Don’t mess with me,” he hollers early on. “I’m a shock wave ready to kill!” More accurately, he and his teenaged band are a nostalgia machine ready to evoke memories of ’80s metal, with its furious chord changes and pop instincts. On tracks like “Show Me the Way,” the hooks fly from every direction: “whoa-ohhhh!” backup vocals, Garcia and Alex Nunez’s hot-rod guitars, random cowbell. But while devoting their young lives to assimilating the Headbangers Ball play list, they’ve neglected their own voice, awkwardly apparent in Garcia’s unconvincing stabs at casting himself as a stud (“Let Me”) and the commander of a mythical army (“Warriors of Time”). Sonically, these guys are a Harley, but lyrically, they’ve still got training wheels on.
