The most likely-to-succeed rejects you’ll ever meet, these driven dreamboats’ sophomore album pushes past emo into pure pop with songs like the wistful, propulsive “Stab My Back,” about teenage trust betrayed, and the thin but effective emoticon anthem “Move Along.” The best hook is unfortunately attached to the lyrics “I’ll keep you my dirty little secret,” which kinda lacks the backhanded charm of forefathers the Replacements’ “Don’t you wanna be my little problem?” Later on though, on “Dance Inside,” when the Oklahoma foursome nearly abandon screamo yelling, their instinctive sweetness brings to mind the guiltiest little radio pleasures of the past 25 years. Hopefully these lucky guys will eventually chuck the high school angst and graduate to soft-rock about the summer breeze and rock-star satisfaction.
