Elvis’s stormy daughter proved she had her daddy’s sneer with her unexpectedly OK 2003 debut, To Whom It May Concern. But it was the King’s voice, not his attitude, that made his reign a lifetime thing, so on the follow-up, Lisa Marie strives to show she’s more than a rebel child. The big ’80s-style production highlights her breathy-sexy vulnerability, but Presley’s better when she rocks, as on the Joan Jett tribute “Idiot,” featuring former Sex Pistols guitarist Steve Jones, and the hidden track “Here Today, Gone Tomorrow,” a Ramones cover that shows her grasp of that great band’s serious side. And she does a nice job channeling Don Henley’s tight-assed anti-tabloid indignation on a cover of his “Dirty Laundry.” More often, though, Presley opts for therapeutic tearjerkers like “Shine,” which wastes a chance for her to duke it out with guest vocalist Pink.
