Hailing from the Beatles’ hometown of Liverpool, England, and inspired by the corny book Jonathan Livingston Seagull, these electropop airheads parlayed goofy hairdos and sugary melodies into early-’80s MTV fame. Though the alien-abduction saga “I Ran (So Far Away)” retains a skittish charm, whiny synth epics such as “Space Age Love Song” make Duran Duran sound like Metallica.
