Don’t trust Baby Bash, ladies. If he treats you like he treats songwriting, he’ll be doing five other girls before you’ve been dating a month. The man can’t settle down, his lyrics make clear, and his debut has commitment problems with musical styles, too. Here he is, blandly speed-rapping over half-baked Dirty South bounce on “Yeh Suh!”, fumbling for melancholy profundity over a misplaced alt-rock riff on “Pollution,” then weed-lusting and aping Sublime on “Early in the Morning.” It’s clear his true love here is the hit single “Suga Suga,” which manages to be zipper-bustingly horny and aw-shucks sweet at the same time. It’s boosted by a smooth Frankie J cameo, the best R&B catcall of the year (“Suga, how you get so flyyy”), and a deliciously knotted acoustic guitar lick.
