They Might Be Giants are their own worst enemy: For 15 years, these too-clever alt-rockers have sabotaged perfectly great songs with extra helpings of cheese. That may suit the folks at Malcolm in the Middle (TMBG’s “Boss of Me” opens the show), but it renders the group little more than a quirky oddity in the real world. That perception’s unlikely to change soon, as Mink Car is almost a total wreck—even decent melodies are hard to come by. Still, they pull a few rabbits: The brilliantly whacked “Wicked Little Critta”—a rap about the heroics of sports stars Bobby Orr and John Havlicek done in a thick Boston accent—must be heard to believed.
