“High school’s over,” wails Something Corporate frontman Andrew McMahon on “iF yoU C Jordan,” their catchy Ben Folds–style kiss-off to a bully. But on this debut CD, high school hasn’t been over long for the five guys in Something Corporate. Leaving Through the Window packs grudges, crushes and beer-stained memories in the sort of buoyant punk-pop that make Jimmy Eat World and Saves the Day hard to resist. Chiming guitar riffs and vibrant piano melodies deliver earnest angst, cosmic uncertainty and occasionally some overheated melodrama, as Something Corporate play every note like it’s the end of the world. But when McMahon yells “Fuck you, Jordan!” in a boyish, after-school tenor, it’s as much fun as a spring-break kegger.
