For a pop star with serious tenure, Janet “Privacy Is My Middle Name” Jackson is a strangely minor presence in her own hits; on the radio (and the TV screen), she’s less a superstar than a brand name. The DVD incarnation of her 1995 video retrospective overwhelms her with bombastic production, everybody-twirl-now choreography and neon-pastel cinematography. But the earliest clips are fascinating period pieces, particularly director Julien Temple’s one-long-pan video for 1986’s “When I Think of You.”
