Farther Along
(Columbia/Legacy)
Release Date: 11/17/1971 12:00
Reviewed by Douglas Wolk
Recorded a month after they released Byrdmaniax, the self-produced final album by the late-model Byrds was intended as a corrective; the repertoire isn’t much better, but it’s got moments of rustic poignancy and some nice country guitar from Clarence White. McGuinn sings on only a couple of tracks, and his 12-string chime has vanished—he’d pretty much given up on the band by this point, and so had their audience. Blessedly out of print.
