Recorded in February 1969, on the Dr. Byrds and Mr. Hyde tour, this fuzzy archival set shows an infamously sloppy live band cleaning up its act and taking cues from the jam-crazy Bay Area scene that had eclipsed the Byrds’ L.A. home in the rock underground. The mood perks up on a series of casual country covers that let White show off his chameleonic picking skills—they dip into the Buck Owens and Merle Haggard catalogues—but a medley of early hits is sadly perfunctory.
