They were born nowhere near the Bayou, but their fascination with hoodoo blues bloomed here. “Proud Mary,” their greatest hit, is pure fiction from its steamboat imagery to Fogerty’s Howlin’ Wolf–inspired pronunciation, yet it’s totally convincing. The filler includes electric blues fast and slow, and a one-chord jam called “Keep On Chooglin’” that became a concert anthem.
