Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros- Global A Go-Go
(Epitaph)
Release Date: 01/01/2001 12:00
Reviewed by Douglas Wolk
Strummer’s rekindled interest in international pop was the focus of a half-hour radio show he’d been hosting for the BBC. With the help of fiddler Tymon Dogg, an associate from the early ’70s, Strummer reconstructed his then-backup band, the Mescaleros, as a pan-cultural groove act, half acoustic and half electronic. Even when the songs miss, the ensemble is usually inventing Balkan techno-bluegrass, or something.
