Lady Soul

With ace soul musicians on board, she’s in her element: “Chain of Fools” is tailor-made for her vocal acrobatics, and “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman” was the most overt song about female sexuality that had ever been on the radio. (Amazingly, both are outtakes from her previous two albums.) And the slow-burning “Ain’t No Way” came from a songwriter who knew Aretha’s heart well: her sister and backup singer Carolyn.
