Costello has called this “our worst record,” although it’s not that bad — “most dated” is probably more accurate, thanks to its awful, synth-heavy production. His misery-wallowing is swaddled in reams of verbiage, although a handful of the songs are terrific, as the stripped-down versions on the reissue reveal.
