Freshly married to Pogues bassist Cait O’Riordan, Costello (crediting himself as “Napoleon Dynamite”!) made his fuck-you-and-good-bye album: blistering songs about sexual despair and disgust, played live to tape, with the Attractions almost blowing out their amps and Elvis spitting himself hoarse. Two tracks are over six minutes long, because the venom won’t stop spilling out.
