Burnin'
(Island)
Release Date: 01/01/1973 12:00
Reviewed by Clark Collis
Released within six months of Catch a Fire, Burnin’ may not have been the commercial smash the Wailers hoped for, but it included “I Shot the Sheriff,” a hit the next year for Eric Clapton. (Marley originally wanted to give “Sheriff” the more controversial title “I Shot the Police.”) Not that Burnin’ was controversy-free, thanks to both the back-cover photo of Marley smoking a joint and the take-no-prisoners militancy of the album-opening Marley/Tosh collaboration “Get Up, Stand Up.”

STANDOUT TRACKS: “Get Up, Stand Up,” “I Shot the Sheriff,” “Burnin’ and Lootin’, ” “Small Axe”
