Ozzfest 2006: Video
Wailing. Chest-thumping. Gnashing of teeth. (And that's just Sharon zing!) Ozzfest 2006 is one of the biggest and heaviest package deals rumbling across America this summer, and though Ozzy is performing only on select dates, the rock remains heavy, hard and constant. Here are just some of headliners and second-stagers who are laying waste to venues around the country in the name of the almighty Ozz.MAIN-STAGE ACTS:
Hatebreed: With titles like The Rise of Brutality and Satisfaction Is the Death of Desire, Ozzfest was the clear destiny of this New Haven, Connecticutspawned outfit. Lead vocalist Jamey Jasta, who doubles as host for MTV2's Headbangers Ball, discusses the inspiration behind the band's new release, Supremacy and, unbelievably, even cracks a smile. (Almost.)

Avenged Sevenfold: Birthed in Orange County, California, A7X draw from metal, hardcore and punk, and are spitting the acidic cocktail all over the first fifteen rows of the main stage, thanks in large part to the TRLapproved single, "Bat Country." And so begins another chapter in the long-standing love affair between Ozzy and bats

DragonForce: Having already established themselves in Europe and Asia, the U.K. twin-guitar assault has brought the big hair and the love of the videogame to the States. After simulating car crashes and elephants on his electric guitar, Herman Li sits down with co-guitarist Sam Totman to discuss their favorite videogame soundtracks, and how to drink and wail at the same time. (Hint: Use a straw.)

SECOND-STAGE ACTS:
Black Label Society: Pulling double duty as Ozz's lead guitarist and frontman for his own Black Label Society, Zakk Wylde is making a play for Busiest Man at Ozzfest. Here he discusses his roots with Ozzy, his friendship with late Pantera guitarist Dimebag Darrell and the beard he rescued from the wrath of Sharon.

Unearth: The furious post-hardcore band from the less-than-furious post-hardcore state of Massachusetts broke nationally behind their 2004 release, The Oncoming Storm, and tours with Slipknot, Killswitch Engage and the Sounds of the Underground festival. Read our review of their impending release, III: In the Eyes of Fire, on Blender.com.

Atreyu: Since stepping into the ring in 2001, this Orange County metalcore band has whipped up enough fanaticism to inspire a Web site dedicated to tattoos featuring the band's MySpace-quotable lyrics and artwork. Here, they dissect the glory of Ozzfest and the perils of pranking your bandmates while trapped in a tour bus.

Bleeding Through: Straightforward and brutal, Orange County's Bleeding Through are a musical forearm in the face which may explain the bloody mouth that adorns the cover of their latest release, The Truth. Before the festival kicked off, we gave lead singer Brandan Schieppati some cash and walked through New York City's center of rock & roll swag, St. Marks Street. After eyeing spiked rings and the lost classics of Boyz II Men, he found some Ozzfest-worthy stage gear to sweat through.
