Alleged Dr. Dre Attacker to Stand Trial
The man accused of punching Dr. Dre at last year's Vibe Awards will stand trial on assault charges, Los Angeles Judge James Dabney has ruled. Enough evidence has been gathered to bring 26-year-old Jimmy James Johnson to trial for the alleged assault on the hip-hop superstar, according to news reports. Dre, whose real name is Andre Young, was attacked just minutes before he was supposed to accept a lifetime achievement award. The initial assault incited a massive brawl at the show which resulted in Johnson suffering a collapsed lung from a stab wound. G-Unit's Young Buck (real name: David Darnell Brown) was arrested in connection with that assault and is currently free on bail.
At his arraignment in January, Johnson pleaded not guilty to assault. If convicted, the L.A. native could face up to eight years behind bars.
