White Stripes frontman Jack White could face a year in prison and a $1,000 fine if convicted of beating up Von Bondies singer Jason Stollsteimer at the Magic Stick, a Detroit club.White, who claims Stollsteimer initiated the December incident — despite eyewitness accounts to the contrary — pleaded not guilty to aggravated assault on January 15. White’s attorney is negotiating a possible plea deal. A March 9 trial is scheduled.
Meanwhile, said Ryan Sult, the editor of MotorCityRocks.com, White and Stollsteimer have stayed away from Detroit clubs since the incident, and locals are on their best behavior. “People joke that they’ll make sure to compliment White Stripes music at all times,” he said.
