Hailing from Detroit, Kid Rock (a.k.a. Bob Ritchie) spent 10 years in obscurity before releasing the rap-rock smash hit Devil Without a Cause in 1998. The album sold over 10 million copies on the strength of the singles "Cowboy" and "Bawitdaba." In 2000 he released a compilation of his early recordings called The History of Rock. Rock's next two albums, Cocky (2001) and Kid Rock (2003), drew more heavily from classic rock influences than from hip-hop. The latter album included a cover of Bad Company's "Feel Like Makin' Love" and a version of the unreleased Bob Seger song "Hard Night for Sarah."Reviews
