Singer-songwriter-guitarist Rivers Cuomo hails from Massachusetts and moved to Los Angeles for college. There he formed Weezer in 1993, with guitarist Jason Cropper, bassist Matt Sharp and drummer Patrick Wilson. They gigged locally and landed a record deal. Replacing Cropper with guitarist Brian Bell, they recorded their eponymous 1994 debut. With the help of humorous videos and a refreshing geek-chic style, Undone (The Sweater Song) and Buddy Holly became their first major hits. Sharp left the band in 1998 to focus on his side project, the Rentals, and was replaced by Mikey Welsh. Scott Shriner replaced Welsh in 2001.Reviews
