Born on January 8, 1935, in Tupelo, Mississippi, Elvis Aaron Presley is widely regarded as the most significant name in rock & roll. He was among the first white performers to combine traditionally black rhythm & blues with country & western, solidifying the nascent genre of rockabilly with Sam Phillips at Sun Studios on his first several recordings in the 1950s. By 1956 a series of No. 1 singles, including Heartbreak Hotel and Hound Dog, made Elvis a superstar, and he starred in his first of several films, Love Me Tender. Presley died at his home, Graceland, in Memphis, Tennessee, on August 16, 1977.Reviews
