Hailing from Dallas, Texas, singer Jessica Simpson began performing at age 12 in the choir of her church, where her father served as youth minister. Simpson was discovered by the head of a contemporary Christian music label and spent the next three years recording an album; unfortunately, the small label folded before it could be released. Simpson soldiered on, becoming a mainstay on the Christian Youth Conference circuit, sharing bills with the likes of Kirk Franklin and Ce Ce Winans and selling her home-recorded album after performances. A copy of the album reached Tommy Mottola of Columbia Records, who believed Simpson could be groomed for a secular audience. Simpsons debut album, 1999s Sweet Kisses, contained the hit singles I Wanna Love You Forever and I Think Im in Love With You. She released Irresistible in 2001, followed by 2003s In This Skin. But Simpson has received her greatest share of attention from the MTV reality show Newlyweds, which follows the lives of her and her husband, Nick Lachey, formerly of the boy band 98°. Features
