Michael Jackson

Michael Joseph Jackson was born on August 29, 1958, in Gary, Indiana, and began his show-biz career at age 9 with his brothers in the Jackson 5. Their 1969 debut spawned the No. 1 hit “I Want You Back,” breaking chart records with three more consecutive No. 1 singles from 1970’s ABC. The King of Pop released his solo debut in 1971 with Got to Be There. His 1982 release, Thriller, produced by Quincy Jones, became the biggest-selling record of all time. Though he had continued to produce hits, Jackson’s bizarre behavior was often eclipsed his music. On June 25, 2009, Jackson collapsed at his rented home in Los Angeles where he was preparing This Is It, a series of 50 concerts that would have been held in London. He was pronounced dead after going into cardiac arrest at approximately 2:25 p.m. local time. A specific cause of death is still under investigation.
