Houston native Beyoncé Giselle Knowles began performing at young age, forming the R&B singing group Destiny's Child with her friend LaTavia Roberson when they were 9 years old. With her father as the group's manager, the group added Beyoncé's cousin Kelly Roland and LaToya Luckett, and in 1998 released their self-titled, smash hit debut album. Destiny's Child went on to become one of the best-selling female musical groups in history.

Following a starring role in Mike Myers' 2002 comedy hit, Austin Powers in Goldmember, Beyoncé launched her solo career with 2003's Dangerously in Love. The album went to No. 1 and produced the No. 1 singles "Baby Boy" and "Crazy in Love," a duet with boyfriend Jay-Z.
