Chicago-based rapper Kanye West got his start in the late 1990s as a producer for Roc-A-Fella Records, working on records for such artists as Jay-Z and Jamie Foxx. After helping to produce Jay-Z's Blueprint album in 2001, he began work on an album of his own. A devastating car crash, however, almost derailed those plans. Following his recovery, he released his debut album, The College Dropout, in 2004, while continuing to work as a producer for musicians like Talib Kweli, Ludacris and Alicia Keys. The album peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard album chart.Blog Posts
