Tori Amos
The daughter of a Methodist preacher, Tori Amos was born on August 22, 1963, in Newton, North Carolina, and grew up in Maryland. With an emotive vocal and lyrical method that call to mind Kate Bush and Joni Mitchell, Amos is most recognized for piano ballads played in her signature haunting style. Her 1996 album, Boys for Pele, debuted at No. 2 and quickly went platinum.
