The nine-member Wu-Tang Clan staked a claim to international hip-hop celebrity with their 1993 debut, Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers). The group, hailing from Staten Island, took the dark minor-key production of producer RZA, and coupled it with kung fu philosophy and gritty, biting lyrical deliveries. The formula proved a huge success, and members Method Man, RZA, GZA, Raekwon the Chef, Ghostface Killah, Ol' Dirty Bastard and Inspectah Deck went on to well-received solo careers. The group came together again for 1997's Wu-Tang Forever, returning in 2000 with The W and in 2001 with Iron Flag.Reviews
