Few rappers from the 2000 Dirty South rap explosion have enjoyed the mainstream success of Ludacris. The Atlanta-based rapper began his career as a radio DJ and turned to rap after appearing on Timbaland's 1998 album, Tim's Bio. Ludacris's self-released debut album, Incognegro (2000), sold well in Atlanta and caught the attention of Scarface, the newly appointed scout for Def Jam South. The label re-released the album, and the bawdy lyrics on his single "What's Your Fantasy?" helped define the "Dirty" South genre. His follow-up albums, Word of Mouf (2001), Golden Grain (2002) and Chicken and Beer (2003), established him as a superstar. A charismatic performer, Ludacris took up acting, appearing in 2003's hit action movie 2 Fast 2 Furious.Reviews
