Willie Hugh Nelson was born on April 30, 1933, in Fort Worth, Texas. The country music icon penned hits for other artists before rising to fame as a performer in the 70s. He is known as much for his jazz-country fusion (he wrote Patsy Clines Crazy) as he is for honky-tonkin (On the Road Again). In 1985 he joined Johnny Cash, Kris Kristofferson and longtime collaborator Waylon Jennings to form the Highwaymen. He also founded Farm Aid, an annual fundraising concert for insolvent farmers, that year. In 1990 the IRS slapped Willie with a $16.7 million bill in back taxes, and he was forced to sell off most of his property to pay off his debts.Reviews
