Ted Nugent
Ted Nugent is not only an unabashed conservative who extols the virtues of hunting, the NRA and a drug-free lifestyle, but a rock star as well. After splitting with the Amboy Dukes in the mid-'70s, the Detroit native rode to fame as a solo artist, releasing his self-titled debut in 1975. With his outrageous stage show (he often dressed as a caveman) and six-string guitar rock, Nugent fit in well during the arena rock era. He reached his commercial peak in 1977 with the album
Cat Scratch Fever. In 1989 he formed the adult contemporary group Damn Yankees with former Night Ranger bassist Jack Blades and former Styx guitarist Tommy Shaw. Though one song off their debut album managed to chart, their sophomore effort wasn't as successful, and they disbanded in 1992. In addition to continuing to tour as a solo act, Nugent hosts the
Ted Nugent Commando Radio Show in Detroit, and in 2000 he wrote his autobiography,
God, Guns, & Rock 'n' Roll.
