Bassist-vocalist Gene Simmons (born Chaim Whitz on August 25, 1949, in Haifa, Israel) and rhythm guitarist-vocalist Paul Stanley (born Paul Eisen on January 20, 1952) formed Kiss in New York City in 1973. They filled out the band with Peter Criss on drums and Ace Frehley on guitar through ads in Rolling Stone and The Village Voice. Known for their dramatic, glam stage personas, Kiss reached rock & roll superstar status with the release of 1975s Alive!, which shot up the charts with its hit single, Rock n Roll All Nite. Their follow-up the next year, Destroyer, went platinum.Reviews
