Guitarists Brian “Head” Welch and James “Munky” Shaffer, drummer David Silveria and bassist Reginald “Fieldy” Arvizu formed the band LAPD in Bakersfield, California. They met singer Jonathan Davis in 1993, and the funk metal band Korn was born. After opening for top acts, Korn released their eponymous debut in 1994. Their follow-up, 1996’s Life Is Peachy, launched them into the mainstream, reaching No. 3 on the charts. Driven by the smash single “A.D.I.D.A.S,” the album went multiplatinum.
