Kurt Cobain

Born in 1967 in Washington, Kurt Cobain bought his first guitar at the age of 14 and roadied for the Melvins while in high school, and in 1986 he formed Nirvana with bassist Krist Novaselic. Nirvana's popularity took off in 1991 with their album Nevermind, and as their fan base grew, Cobain became increasingly uncomfortable with his fame. In 1992 Cobain married rocker Courtney Love, who gave birth to their daughter, Frances Bean, later that year. On April 5, 1994, at the age of 27, after years of self-medicating with heroin for his stomach problems, Cobain committed suicide. In 1996 the remaining members of Nirvana released the posthumous album From the Muddy Banks of Wishkah.
