The Notorious B.I.G. brought fellow Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, native Lil' Kim (born Kimberly Jones) into the rap game by introducing her to the Junior M.A.F.I.A. crew. The only female member of the group, her contribution to their 1995 debut album, Conspiracy, had a lot to do with its success. In 1996 Kim released her solo debut, Hard Core. Showcasing Kim's nimble rhyme skills and her sexually charged gangsta persona, the album was an immediate hit. Her more pop-oriented follow-up, Notorious K.I.M. (2000), was not as well received by hip-hop fans, but she returned to her hardcore roots in 2003 with the critically well-received La Bella Mafia.Reviews
