Linkin Park is a California alt-metal act that formed in Los Angeles in 1996. However, it wasn't until singer Chester Bennington was added in 1999 and the group released Hybrid Theory in 2000 that the band's success became apparent. Combining flourishes of electronica with the heavy riffs of metal, Hybrid Theory went on to become the best-selling album of 2001, with more than 4 million copies sold, positioning Linkin Park as one alt-metal's most popular acts.
