Jack Johnson grew up on the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii, and began surfing at age three. He was known as a professional surfer before he was known for his music. Johnson began producing surf documentaries, along with the music featured in them, as a film student at the University of California at Santa Barbara. He abandoned surfing for music and released his debut album, Brushfire Fairytales, in 2001. The album was produced by J.P. Plunier, Ben Harpers producer, and featured steel-guitar work by Harper.Reviews
