Born Jeff Atkins, Ja Rule was raised a Jehovah's Witness in Hollis, Queens. He scored his first hit in 1999 with the song "Holla Holla," off his debut album, Venni Vetti Vecci. The gruff-voiced rapper's cross-over breakthrough, however, came a year later with Rule 3:36, which included the sensitive-thug duets "Between You and Me," "Put It on Me" and "I Cry." Ja launched his acting career in 2000 with a lead role in the film Turn It Up; he also starred in the movies The Fast and the Furious and Scary Movie 3.Reviews
