Keyboardist-guitarist Andrew Farriss, singer Michael Hutchence and bassist Garry Gary Beers, all friends from high school, formed INXS with Andrew’s brothers Tim (guitar) and Jon (drums), and Kirk Pengilly (guitar, saxophone) in Perth, Australia, in 1977. They moved to Sydney in ’79 and released their self-titled debut in 1980. The multiplatinum Kick was released in 1987 and containing the hits “Need You Tonight,” “Devil Inside,” “New Sensation” and “Never Tear Us Apart,” establishing them international stars. On November 22, 1997, Hutchence hung himself in a Sydney hotel room.
