Matchbox Twenty
Matchbox Twenty formed in Orlando, Florida, in the mid-'90s with Rob Thomas on vocals, Brian Yale on bass, Paul Doucette on drums, and Kyle Cook and Adam Gaynor on guitars. They released their debut album, Yourself or Someone Like You, in 1996. Although the album never topped the charts, it eventually went 10-times platinum and established the band as leaders in the late '90s modern rock movement. Before the release of their second album, Mad Season (2000), the band received a major a visibility boost with the popularity of the single "Smooth," cowritten and sang by Thomas for Carlos Santana's wildly successful album Supernatural. Matchbox Twenty shared songwriting duties for their third album, More Than You Think You Are (2002), which produced the Top 40 hit "Bright Eyes."
