Brandon Boyd (vocals), Mike Einziger (guitar), Alex Katunich (bass) and Jose Pasillas (drums) were friends in high school in Calabasas, California, when they formed the rap metal band Incubus in 1991. Rubbing guitars with the turntable stylings of DJ Lyfe, they released S.C.I.E.N.C.E. in 1998 and performed in the 1998 Family Values Tour. The hit singles “Drive” and “Pardon Me,” as well as their turn on the 2000 Ozzfest tour, propelled sales of 1999’s Make Yourself.
