University of South Carolina students Darius Rucker (vocals), Mark Bryan (guitar), Dean Felber (bass) and Jim "Soni" Sonefeld (drums) formed Hootie & the Blowfish in 1989. After signing to Atlantic Records, they released Cracked Rear View in 1994; with the smash hit singles "Hold My Hand" and "Let Her Cry," the radio-friendly guitar rock album quickly made the Top 10 and eventually sold over 13 million copies. Both Hootie's second album, Fairweather Johnson (1996), and third album, Musical Chairs (1989), debuted high on the charts but didn't come close to matching the sales figures of their debut. In 2003 the band collaborated with famed producer Don Was for a self-titled album.Reviews
