Herbie Hancock
Bandleader, composer, pianist and keyboardist Herbert Jeffrey Hancock was born on April 12, 1940, in Chicago. Hancock released his debut solo,
Takin Off, in 1962, and Miles Davis recruited him for his band the following year. Though he is a jazz icon with an inexhaustible catalog of gems, his oscillation between acoustic jazz and electronic R&B and pop has long angered purists.
