Acoustic guitarists Ryan Miller and Adam Gardner and percussionist Brian Rosenworcel began playing together in 1992 while attending Tufts University. They recorded their debut album, Parachute, in '95, during their junior year. The album received local praise and, with the help of their engaging live shows, the band's popularity began to spread beyond the Boston area. Guster signed with Sire for their third album, 1999's Lost and Gone Forever, produced Steve Lillywhite (Dave Matthews Band). They followed up in 2003 with their breakthrough album, Keep It Together.
