Gorillaz is the 2000 collaboration of maverick hip-hop producer Dan “The Automator” Nakamura, rapper Del tha Funkee Homosapian, Blur’s Damon Albarn, Cibo Matto’s Miho Hatori, Morcheeba’s Skye Edwards, producer Kid Koala and the Talking Heads’ Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth. They created a “virtual hip-hop group,” using animated characters by cult comic book artist Jamie Hewlett to mask their identities.
