The Buffalo, New York-based Goo Goo Dolls were formed in 1985 by Johnny Rzeznik on guitar and vocals, Robby Takac on bass, and George Tutuska on drums. They released their debut album in 1987 on the independent heavy metal label Metal Blade. The Dolls released their third album, Hold Me Up, in 1991 on Warner Bros. Following the release of their first platinum album, A Boy Named Goo, in 1995, Tutuska left the band and was replaced by Mike Malinin. The Goo Goo Dolls big commercial breakthrough, however, came in 1998 with the release of their sixth album, Dizzy Up the Girl, a more mainstream rock album that sold over three million copies.Reviews
