George Michael
Born Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou in North London in 1963, pop icon George Michael began his career as half of the '80s pop duo Wham! alongside friend Andrew Ridgeley. In 1987, CBS Records released Michael's first solo album,
Faith. The multiplatinum album contained six No. 1 singles ("I Want Your Sex," "Faith," "Father Figure," "One More Try," "Monkey" and "Kissing a Fool") and earned him a Grammy for Album of the Year. That year he also became the first male artist to sing a duet with Aretha Franklin, "I Knew You Were Waiting (for Me)." After releasing a string of unsuccessful records, and getting arrested for lewd conduct in 1998, he released
Patience in 2004, which landed at No. 12.
