Frank Sinatra
Francis Albert Sinatra was born on December 12, 1915, in Hoboken, New Jersey. One of the most successful and popular performers of the 20th century, Sinatra dropped out of high school to pursue a music career. He began in a singing group, but by 1940 was the vocalist for Tommy Dorsey & His Orchestra. Sinatras smooth, swinging style of singing, good looks and charm made female fans swoon. He soon hit the top of the charts as a solo act, and by the end of the decade he was starring in MGM musicals. Sinatra won an Oscar for his supporting role in
From Here to Eternity in 1953. After a career that spanned seven decades, Sinatra died of a heart attack at 82 years old in Los Angeles on May 14, 1998.
